Synopsis
Explores the various ways computers are currently used in the field. Introductory in nature, it assumes no prior knowledge of computers and only basic mathematical skills. The first two chapters introduce computers and data, including reviews of the hardware and software components of a digital computer, using personal computers as a model. The remaining five chapters cover individual topics representing a selection of the major areas of computer use in geography such as statistical analysis, computer cartography, remote sensing data from satellites to map the surface of the Earth, the development and use of simulation models.
