Synopsis
This Second Edition of the highly successful textbook on mechanics has been updated and revised to include new and more practical material. The chapters on kinematics and mechanical oscillations have been rewritten and there is a new chapter on nonlinear behavior of some simple dynamical systems. Features more worked examples and exercises, improved diagrams and updated notation. In addition, sections describing numerical methods are now out of date and have been replaced by a modern computer-based approach. Problems to be solved on a microcomputer are now included.

In this new edition, the chapter on vibrations has been completely revised and divided into two, and the original chapter on linear theory has been extended to include normal modes of multiple systems. A completely new chapter on non-linear dynamics has been added to illustrate such phenomena as limit cycles, period doubling and chaos in dynamical systems. Chapters on applications of particle dynamics and differential equations have also been re-organized. The text now includes many computer-generated diagrams.
