Synopsis
The nature of precursors is one of the classic problems of developmental research. This study examines how scientists have tried to find the causes of normal milestones in developmental and psychiatric disorders. Contributors from a number of areas in developmental psychology and psychiatry reflect on the concepts of precursors and causes as they are used to describe and explain normal and abnormal development.
