Dr Gavin Read is a lecturer at Moray House Institute of Education in Edinburgh and Course Leader for the Post-Graduate Awards in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia). He was instrumental in the development of the first Master's Award in Dyslexia in Scotland and in the conversion of the course into an open and distance learning format. The course has been run in many countries and he has made numerous keynote conference presentations throughout the UK, Europe, United States, Hong Kong, and New Zealand.
He is the editor of the two volume text Dimensions of Dyslexia, author of Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia): A Handbook for Study and Practice and co-author of Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) A Resource Book for Parents and Teachers. He ahs also written a number of book chapters for journal articles.
He is a member of the British Dyslexia Association Accreditation Board for Teacher Training and has been a consultant in many national and international working groups on assessment, teaching and dyslexia in higher education.
He also has many years' experience as a class teacher and as an educational psychologist. He is Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and has a PhD in Psychology from the University of Glasgow. He is committed to helping teachers develop an awareness of the learning needs and potential of dyslexic children.
