This volume summarizes the findings of the international collaborative SCOPE-RADTEST (Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment - RADiation from nuclear TEST explosions) project, which examined the impact of nuclear explosions on the environment and humans. The book discusses the locations of nuclear test sites and the history of nuclear testing before discussing environmental impacts and exposure pathways. The test sites covered include; Nevada; Semipalatinsk; Novaya Zemlya; Pacific sites; Lor Nor; and Maralinga.

The location and dates of 730 explosions and the 2419 tests performed between 1945 and 1998 are given followed by discussion of their effects. The fallout from 541 atmospheric tests and effects on human health and environment are assessed and the development of nuclear weapons is described.
