Affection and gratitude and deep esteem have not been wanting to prompt in surviving members of the family the desire that a Memorial of the departed Husband and Father should be given to the world; but the appearance of this volume is not to be ascribed to these feelings. It is issued not to cherish and honor the memory of the dead; but to edify and cheer and inspire living pilgrims on their way to the better land.
