Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book charts the history of efforts to reform French orthography and spelling. Beginning with the premise that written language should clearly reflect the sounds of spoken language, the author traces the evolution of this idea from the 16th century to the present. The book explores both the arguments for and against reform, including the influence of etymology and the resistance to change from the French Academy. It also discusses the work of key figures in the reform movement, such as Ramus, Voltaire, and Beauz e. By examining the challenges and successes of past reformers, this book sheds light on the ongoing debate over the relationship between language and writing. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N de rf. du vendeur 9780483822757_0
