Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intricate relationship between the literary traditions of England and Normandy during the Middle Ages. It explores the sources of the massive historical poem "Brut" by the English poet Layamon, written around 1200. The author argues that Layamon's work was primarily based on a lost version of the "Roman de Brut" by the Norman poet Wace, rather than on direct access to earlier British sources. Through a close examination of Layamon's text and a comparison with surviving Wace manuscripts, the book uncovers the complex interplay of cultural influences that shaped the development of Arthurian literature. The insights offered in this study shed new light on the transmission and transformation of literary traditions across linguistic and cultural boundaries. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. N° de réf. du vendeur 9780484981224_0
