Ambrose Bierce was an American author, critic, and journalist. Bierce also served in the Union Army during the American Civil War and much of his work is based off his experiences. Bierce's most famous work is The Devil's Dictionary, a satirical dictionary that was published in 1906. In the years since its publication, The Devil's Dictionary has often been quoted and translated and is widely considered to be one of the greatest satirical works in American literature.
