Countee Cullen (1903-1946) was a poet, playwright, novelist, and leading figure in the Harlem Renaissance. A graduate of both Harvard University and and New York University, Copper Sun is his second poetry collection, focusing on Cullen's experiences as a black, Christian, bisexual man in the 1920s and 30s. His poems are accompanied by sixteen contemporary Art-Deco illustrations by Charles Cullen (no relation).
