Rear panel has black and white photograph of Alan Sillitoe. Front panel of dustwrapper bright. ***204 mm x138 mm. 80 pages.***'The poems in this book are a selection from what Alan Sillitoe has written during the last six years. They are not printed in chronological order but are spaced in an emotional and spiritual pattern, telling a story - though not an obvious one - which is visible under the surface. ***Being a novelist may dictate the order of the poems, though not their content, for Alan Sillitoe shows that his vision as a poet can cover quite different parts of the human experience. ***There are several themes in the present volume, but the main one is that the poet holds the heart at bay when it threatens to overwhelm and destroy him. This is an area of conflict which makes the poet strong, forcing him into confrontations on the territory of sanity and equilibrium that either make or break him. (Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb). ***First impression of the true first edition, complete in its original dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. N° de réf. du vendeur 6872
