Synopsis
David Hockney describes in his own words his life and work over the past 20 years. During that period, he has devoted himself to forging a new way of seeing through an intense exploration of a variety of forms. He has produced work in almost every medium - painting, drawing, stage design, photography and printmaking. He has undertaken a singular and ambitious experiment with ways of seeing and ways of representing what we see, ranging from his paintings, with their challenges to perspective and brilliant colours, to his vivid multidimensional photo-collages and his fax art, computer printings and coloured laser prints. Interweaving detailed accounts of personal experience and artistic endeavour, Hockney offers a revealing autobiography of the modern artist. His creativity, which fuses technology with playfulness and unites inventiveness with a deeply felt philosophy, is demonstrated in more than 300 full-colour images, many published for the first time.
