Colin Cruise was born in Bangor, Co Down, and was educated in Belfast. He studied fine art at Hornsey College of Art and Victorian Studies and English literature at Keele University. He has lectured and published widely on Victorian art, literature and religion, specializing in the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the Aesthetic Movement. In 2005 he curated the major exhibition on the work of Simeon Solomon for Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery and edited the accompanying catalogue, "Love Revealed : Simeon Solomon and the Pre-Raphaelites". Since 2006 he has been a research lecturer at the School of Art, Aberystwyth University.
