"Tim Storrier is a painter of extraordinary technical prowess. His large canvases of burning detritus and turbulent seas adorn major collections around the world. In Lines of Fire, author Ashley Crawford investigates the source material for Storrier's paintings, revealing that the artist is as adept with the pencil as the paintbrush. Lines of Fire delves into the sources of Storrier's motifs - the snake, the burning rope, the campsite - unearthing links and obscure and highly personal references while considering the themes of mortality, religion, travel and survival in Storrier's imagery. In this collection Storrier's notes spill over into the margins, giving the studies a particular frisson. Lines of Fire also explores the philosophical, psychological and literary inspirations for Storrier's work - from the poetry of Hart Crane to the philosophies of Albert Camus. Storrier has won the prestigious Sulman Prize twice and his work has been acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, as well as each of the major state galleries in Australia.
