In his first chapter the author examines the basic postulates. His second chapter is the most comprehensive study of predodecaphonic atonality that has so far appeared. Third chapter, he analyzes works by Scriabin, Bartok and Stravinsky, as well as Schoenberg, for he wishes to stress that the serial concept in itself is not unique to twelve-tone music.
