Mobile genetic elements are responsible for many previously little-understood phenomena. This collection of review articles surveyss some of the most recent and exciting advances in our understanding of the mechanisms, regulation, and consequences of genetic transposition of these elements. It surveys transposition in a wide range of organisms, both prokaryotic and eukaryotic. In addition, the possible evolutionary consequences of transposition are given full consideration. The whole area of transposition is generating considerable interest and excitement and this up-to-date and timely volume will have broad appeal.
