Revue de presse

"...a precise, compact and comprehensive set of photographs...The labelling of the high-quality photos of celloidin sections is clear, up-to-date, and confined to features that are visible...I would recommend that every laboratory should have the 'Ratlas' at hand." Journal of Anatomy

"This atlas is a useful tool for neuroscientists and laboratory technicians to plan stereotaxic procedures in the rat brain. It can increase the accuracy of stereotaxic procedures because of the inclusion of plates that represent thinner cuts and two different scales. This book is a serious effort to overcome the limitations of previous atlases, a goal that is mainly met." Xavier Beristain, Doody's Health Sciences Book Review Journal

"...provides a useful guide to the structure of the rat brain that is not subject to controversial boundaries or nomenclature." Rebecca D. Burwell, Quarterly Review of Biology

"This atlas will be useful in studies in which a great detail of structure is required. It will be of particular value to individuals who need to identify structures in closely sectioned brain tissue." Phyllis Callahan, TEM

Présentation de l'éditeur

This volume contains a set of photomicrographs of technically excellent sections of the brain of the laboratory rat. Each plate consists of matching cell and fibre stains labelled for neuronal groups and axonal tracts, respectively, with abbreviations directly on the appropriate structures and annotations explaining criteria, and other problems of nomenclature, for structures requiring commentary. Structures can be traced in photomicrographs in sagittal, horizontal and transverse sections; the latter at 0.3mm intervals, for both cell and fibre stains. The text and tabular material provide guidance for the use of this atlas of the brain for stereotaxic placement of electrodes, or for destruction using cranial landmarks. The authors are experienced neuroanatomists with extensive backgrounds in experimental work on the rat nervous system.
