À propos de l?auteur

John van Wyhe is an historian of science. He is the founder and Director of Darwin Online (http://darwin-online.org.uk/) - the largest edition of Darwin's publications and manuscripts ever published, and a Bye-Fellow of Christ's College, Cambridge (Darwin's own college). He recently led the restoration of Darwin's rooms at Christ's College. Dr van Wyhe's research has challenged the long-held view that Darwin held back or kept his theory secret for 20 years (Darwin's delay). His books include Charles Darwin's Notebooks from the Voyage of the Beagle, with Gordon Chancellor and a foreword by Richard Darwin Keynes (Cambridge University Press, 2009), Darwin in Cambridge (Cambridge, Christ's College, 2009) and Darwin (Andre Deutsch, 2008, and National Geographic, 2009).

Hardcover. Etat : Like New. First Edition. A firm and square hardback with sharp corners and strong joints, just showing a few very minor cosmetic rubs. Hence a non-text page has a 'damaged' stamp. Despite such this book is actually in nearly new condition and appears unread. Thus the contents are crisp, fresh and tight; no pen-marks. Now offered for sale at a very sensible price. Hardcover. Etat : new. Hardcover. Charles Darwin's words first appeared in print as a student at Christ's College, Cambridge in 1829, and in almost every subsequent year of his life he published essays, articles, letters to editors, or other brief works. These shorter publications contain a wealth of valuable material. They represent an important part of the Darwin visible to the Victorian public, alongside his ever present sense of humour, and reveal an even wider variety of his scientific interests and abilities, which continued to his final days. This book brings together all known shorter publications and printed items Darwin wrote during his lifetime, including his first and his last publications, and the first publication, with A. R. Wallace, of Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection. With over seventy newly discovered items, the book is fully edited and annotated, and contains original illustrations and a comprehensive bibliography.
