Hardback: 8½" x 5¾". Etat : Very Good: Light signs of wear. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Cover Art: H Lawrence Hoffman (illustrateur). 1st Edition. © 1973: A stand-alone novel by Gordon R Dickson. 1st edition, 1st printing, Some colour fading to cover spine:- Synopsis: To woodsman Cary Longan, the rock chiseled by his friend Charlie, a swamp otter native to the planet Arcadia, was a piece of art - something that spoke to him of the dark granite and gray-green swamp-land so dear to him but so alien to the city dwellers of this colony far from Earth. To Mattie Orvalo, running her father's outfitting business at the age of nineteen, the rock was a stake of money - a chance to participate in the new mortgage that would allow any settler with cash to profit when Arcadia was turned into a replica of Earth. Nobody, not even Cary, could tell what Charlie felt, because he could only communicate in otter whistles. But these ill-assorted companions set out to haul eleven hundred pounds of statue overland to meet the deadline of a prospective off-world buyer - on the day the future of Arcadia was to be decided. This is the story of that trek, and the effect it had on the whole planet, told with Gordon R Dickson's special mixture of frontier flavor and off-world adventure:- (original price $4.95).
