DJ has small tears and wear to all edges and book has a previous owner's name and information redacted in black on fep. Although it's a little rough, this is still an eminently readable book. The story of the 1980 convict uprising at the New Mexico State penitentiary at Santa Fe. Extremely well researched, with copious detailed footnotes. A modern horror story told in graphic detail. Morris' meticulous documentation traces prison corruption and proving the tragedy could have been avoided. It is inevitable that this or any other account of what took place behind those walls would be sensationalistic, but Morris goes beyond that to expose the corruption, the cronyism, the wholesale negiligence and the stupidity that keyed the riot and continue to infect the entire New Mexico penal system. In 1985 Roger Morris won the coveted bronze Medal of the Investigative Reporters and Editors for the most distinguished journalism across all media nationwide. He holds a Ph.D in government from Harvard. In the Playboy Magazine, March 1981 Morris had an article published titled "36 Hours At Santa Fe" . Morris re-visited the penitentiary in 1981 one year after the riot and wrote an article for the March issue of Playboy about the conditions that existed at that time.
