Présentation de l'éditeur

There are few subjects connected with theology on which so much variety of thought, and so much confusion of thought, exists, as on the subject of Hades, or the Intermediate State of Man. By this state I mean the condition of man from the time that he dies to the time that he rises from the dead. To lay this befoye the minds of thinking men as it is presented in God s Word is the object of my present work. II. I must be met by honest argument, and not by declamation. The work which I now present to the public has cost me much time and much thought. I have not rushed hastily or thoughtlessly into the subject. Drawing towards the close of my life, knowing the awful responsibility of speaking at alj upon themes like this, I would not dare to put forward what I now do unless I felt it to be my duty to do so. To the best of my ability I have studied what God s Word here teaches. I have prayed for guidance that I might not go astray. I knew that all but universal opinion was against me, and, therefore, I proceeded the more cautiously. III. As I have pursued my argument I must be met by my opponents; to reasoning, reasoning must be opposed. My arguments from Scripture must be overthrown from that source. In this day, when everything is sifted and examined, it will not do to be told that common opinion is against me. The old cry of materialism, which used to be so potent, will not suffice to overthrow me. There is a good deal of materialism in the Book which tells us that God made man out of the dust or matter of the earth.

Présentation de l'éditeur

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
