After it was published, a very heated controversy arose, which is still continuing today.

Rampa's contention that a Tibetan lama was writing "through" him, and had fully occupied his body, was not one to which many Western readers were likely to give credence.

Many of them, however, were confounded by Rampa's obvious mastery of the subject, opening wide a door on a fascinating and little-known part of the world, despite his having no record of previous literary ability. In the end, no one was able to truly disprove his story.

Whatever the truth of the matter may be, it is right that this reprint of "Doctor From Lhasa" be made available to the general public once again. It stands on its own merit, and is highly enjoyable.
