Synopsis
Having spent sixteen years as Principal of the Jewish Children's Bureau Therapeutic Day School in Chicago, Dr. Henry Roth had the opportunity to spend time with children and adolescents who were sent to "time-out" for various misbehaviors. In these situations, the children often made comments that were astute, touching, and sometimes very funny. As Henry would come home from work and tell his wife, Lorraine, about these moments, they decided to write them down and put them into a book. Lorraine drew cartoon illustrations for the vignettes. Henry also added a brief discussion the background of each student in the tale and their unique circumstances. A short section was included, entitled "Strategies for Time-Out", with suggestions that Henry found helpful in dealing with children's misbehavior in school. Tales from Time-Out should appeal to a diverse audience -- parents and professionals -- but also to anyone who believes in the healing power of humor.
