The favor with which the Amaranth has been received in past years, encourages its proprietors in the belief that it has already an established reputation, and a fixed and honorable position among the numerous candidates of its time. That it has meta pretty formidable competition, the publishers are not disposed to deny; but at the same time, they hope they may be excused in saying, they do not think it has suffered in the comparison with its many very estimable associates. In the preparation of the present volume, the same editorial and artistic aid has been employed as in the former volumes of the series; and in every branch of its mechanicaldepartment no expense has been spared to make it if possible superior to either of its predecessors. If the patronage of an approving public shall crown our exertions in this, as in the past, early aid will be invoked in the preparation of a worthy successor to this. Boston, A ugust, 1848.
