Music Analysis is written for both students and teachers, this is beautifully presented introduction to an increasingly important area of college and university music study. The authors central concern is with twentieth-century approaches to two kinds of music that based on tonality (the language of Bach, Beethoven and Brahms), and secondly, atonal and serial composition, with Schoenbery and Webern the representative masters. The book concludes with an introduction to the subject of structuralism and musical semiotics.
