The remaining interior is in very good condition.;The ceramics of the Ming dynasty in China (1368-1644) are renowned for their beauty, their vitality and their virtuosity. New techniques such as the use of underglaze-blue and -red and of enamel decoration were perfected; new forms and styles were constantly being explored. The 'Transitional-style' and 'Shonzui' wares have particularly fascinated connoisseurs. The already flourishing ceramic centre at Ching-tê Chên in central China soon came to be employed for the manufacture of Ming Imperial wares and it attained a dominance it was to keep for half a millennium. Soame Jenyns's pioneering study performed a monumental task: with its exhaustive survey of Ming ceramics, it laid the foundations for all future research. His many informed insights are as stimulating today as they were when Ming Pottery and Porcelain was written, and his inclusion of much historical material which is not available elsewhere has ensured that it has remained an important work of reference.
