Synopsis
Whilst still in his teens, George Benjamin was hailed as the greatest new talent in British music since Britten, and became the youngest composer ever to have a piece performed at the Proms. He has since matured into one of the country's major musical figures. He has always been a strong advocate of modern music, stressing the importance of the aural imagination over the attractions of systems. Published in collaboration with IRCAM, the electronic-music institute in Paris founded by Pierre Boulez, this book includes an overview of Benjamin's music by Renaud Machart, an extensive interview with Benjamin, introductions to all his music, and a bibliography and discography.
