Synopsis

Life is going well for Imamu Jones. He has moved his mother away from Harlem and, with his job as a delivery boy for McDermott's Gourmet, is supporting her in a respectable Brooklyn apartment. More important, his mother has stopped drinking, encouraged by Imamu's love and the concern of his foster family, the Aimsleys.
Imamu's rounds for McDermott's include a regular call at the luxurious Muldoon estate. He is captivated by the mansion and its occupants, especially the alluring Charlotte Darcy, and he has struck up a firm friendship with her crippled niece, Margaret. But Margaret's prejudiced uncle distrusts Imamu's intentions towards the family and bans him from the house. When Margaret's body is found floating in the swimming pool, suspicion falls naturally on Imamu's shoulders, threatening all he has achieved.
Here is a fast-paced, compelling thriller, which completes the trilogy begun with The Disappearance ("harsh, relentless and exciting" Times Literary Supplement) and New Guys Around the Block ("an intense and powerful novel" Books For Keeps)
