Six Degrees of Connection picks up where The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell left off, explaining specifically what Connectors do to create and sustain the ties that bind professionals, families, and communities. As long-term CEO of LEADERSHIP Philadelphia, author Liz Dow has encountered a unique type of leader-an individual who mobilizes and inspires others to take action, a person who seems to know everyone and gets things done behind the scenes. She recognized such people as "Connectors" and asserts that they are the new leaders. LEADERSHIP aims to mobilize and connect these leaders to serve the greater community through leadership development training and seminars. Inspired by The Tipping Point, Dow initiated a groundbreaking study of Connectors, examining what they do and how they do it. Ten competencies emerged, and each is illustrated by the story of one of the Connectors they studied. Each chapter guides the reader through a definition of the skills required, habits that derail connection, a self-assessment, and a menu of actions required to take to improve one's skills and become a Connector.
