"Serving Two Masters?" provides practical insight and sound advice for anyone who has wrestled with the integration of faith and work. In 51 short essays, Bill Pollard challenges us to do far better than "balance" or "juggle" our personal, spiritual, and business imperatives. He shows us how they come together in a powerful sense of purpose. Drawn from Pollard's more than 25 years of executive experience with ServiceMaster, the reflections in "Serving Two Masters?" show us how"despite contrary belief " faith belongs in business, God and profit have a lot in common, and the bottom line shouldn't be a business's sole reason for being. In "Serving Two Masters?" the best-selling author of "The Soul of the Firm" shows that principles of faith and smart business practices are not mutually exclusive and that combining the two can actually lead to extraordinary success.

William Pollard draws upon his spiritual and practical insights––and those of other business and thought leaders––to show readers that principles of faith and smart business practices are not mutually exclusive, but can unite to strengthen corporate culture and lead to extraordinary financial success.
Imagine you are a manager at a large company. You stay current with the latest thinking in business management and leadership. You are up on the trends in sales and operations. But for the wealth of resources available, you haven't found much support in answering some of the most important questions about your business life: How can I manage the tension of living an authentic faith while delivering ever–increasing business results? Is there meaning in my work beyond making a living? How can I understand the world of money and profit in the context of my faith or a purpose and meaning for life? Who's been there before me?
Unlike the religious or faith–oriented books on the subject, Serving Two Masters provides practical insights from people who don't just read Fortune or The Wall Street Journal, but who are quoted in them. Drawn from over forty years of executive experience, Pollard's reflections will speak to everyone who has wrestled with the integration of faith and work as well as provice practical management and leadership insights taken straight from the real–world issues ServiceMaster faced when the firm was recognized by Fortune magazine as the nation's top service company.
C. William Pollard joined ServiceMaster in 1977 and has served not once but twice as its CEO. His first term as CEO was from 1983 to 1993, a period characterized by major change, including the introduction and growth of the company''s consumer group. In 1999, Bill returned as CEO and served for sixteen months until the process of electing his successor was completed. During his leadership, ServiceMaster was recognized by Fortune magazine as the #1 service company among the Fortune 500. ServiceMaster was also identified as a "star of the future" by the Wall Street Journal and recognized by the Financial Times as one of the most respected companies in the world. In 2004, Pollard received the Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh Award for Business Ethics at Notre Dame.
