At the age of 15 during a high school work-study program Wayne Elsey took a fateful job in a shoe store. He quickly realized that he found his passion in the footwear industry. Through the years, Wayne worked his way up in his career. He went on to develop in the field in various positions in manufacturing, management, sales and marketing. He served as President of Kodiak-Terra USA and as President and CEO of Footwear Specialties International (FSI) where he grew the revenue 400 percent during his five-year tenure. After the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and earthquake, Wayne’s life took another life-changing turn. He realized there was a great need in the affected countries and beyond for the basics, including shoes. He became CEO of Soles4Souls, which is a social enterprise he founded and turned into an organization with a budget exceeding $70 million in less than five years. He established Soles4Souls to help ensure that individuals in developing nations have access to shoes, which are necessary for hygiene and medical reasons, going to school and being able to work. Today, Wayne is the founder and CEO of Wayne Elsey Enterprises (WEE), a company that works with social enterprise organizations, nonprofits and businesses on strategy, branding, development and education via the following four subsidiary portfolio brands: • str@tegic – focusing on leadership and business strategy. • Funds2Orgs – a social enterprise that enables individuals, companies and social sector organizations to raise funds while helping to support micro-enterprise opportunities in developing nations. • 501C3U – a free online university for nonprofit education. • Not Your Father’s Charity (NYFC) – his blog and a forum that enables social entrepreneurs, philanthropists, nonprofits, the media and general public to learn how to succeed in the 21st Century social sector.
