For hundreds of years, social constructs have trained us to listen to and outsource our control to so-called "experts" regarding every aspect of our lives. But just about everything you need to survive, you are born with. Ever sit back and watch an animal in your yard, home, or park? A squirrel finds and stores nuts for the winter; a cat's tail stands at attention when it deems something a threat; a bird gathers straw to make a nest. None of these animals have attended school, worked for a corporation, or become addicted to social media. If you sit still for more than a few minutes and begin questioning your actions, you might be surprised to learn that they were not of your choosing. For many women, the natural change of life arouses such questions. Social constructs have an immediate and long-lasting impact on our lives. Elaine Jones is a supply chain/logistics professional and author of My Menopausal Metamorphosis; How my Change of Life Gave the Boot to Societal Strife. Elaine's twenty-plus years of experience writing holiday cards and short poems for family and friends inspired her current book.Elaine is the recipient of the Middlesex College creative writing award. Elaine lives and works in New Jersey and spends her time with family, laughing, reading, writing, and gardening.
