Tate has recently transferred to a new school, where most of the students do not look like her. Tate is a beautiful dark-skinned African American junior high school student. Her hopes of attending a fun and inclusive school are quickly extinguished on the first day of school. Immediately, Tate realizes she's an outsider when the other students are making fun of her dark skin, and not being friends with her. However, when Tate receives advice from Franklin the Helper, she starts to realize that her dark skin is not the source of the problem.
This book is written in rhyme and spotlights the reality many children of color often experience. Franklin the Helper - The Color of My Skin Doesn't Blend In, is part of the Franklin the Helper Collection of Books that encourage children through social obstacles.
