Synopsis
This publication systematically records, verifies and interprets new words and new meanings as soon as they appear in written English. Over 1200 new words and meanings which have appeared in the English language presses worldwide mainly in 1987 and 1988 are recorded here. Each is given a separate entry which provides a definition, cites the actual press quotations which verify the occurence and in many cases includes a discursive essay which interprets the origins of the new words and meanings and explains their emerging usage. The volume is intended to be the first of a periodic series.
