The boundary integral equation method is an elegant and powerful technique for solving boundary value problems arising in continuum mechanics and in the modelling of other physical pehenomena. This book aims to show how it operates in application to a two-dimensional problem of elasticity theory that does not quite fit the classical framework, and how its results are corrobrated and explained by the stress function method. Although the procedure is dissected into all its details, the more specialized background technicalities are kept to a minimum. No knowledge of functional analysis or solid mechanics is assumed beyond a handful of very basic terms and concepts.
