Quatrième de couverture

“I have adopted this text for my course and I plan to continue using it whenever I teach public administration. The major factor that makes me use this text is its hands-on approach. I want my students to be fully engaged in the classroom and this workbook helps that happen.”

–Bethany G. Sneed, Eastern Michigan University

The Public Administration Workbook
Sixth Edition

Mark W. Huddleston
Dennis L. Dresang

This unique workbook engages students in the study of public administration. It helps users gain a deeper understanding of the field by providing hands-on exercises that expose them to a wide range of practical applications. Connecting theory to practice, a brief theoretical introduction precedes each exercise, explaining why the technique is important and how it is relevant to the study and practice of public administration.

New to the Sixth Edition

  • Responding to the increased use of government contracts, a new chapter on contract management discusses the advantages and limitations of contracting and allows students to shape and negotiate a contract.
  • An outline of clear distinctions in the types of management–operational, project, contract, regulatory, and emergency–help students recognize important patterns within public administration.
  • An emphasis on decision making–the fundamental, daily activity of public administrators–brings students closer to understanding the real practice of public administration.
  • The exercise on recruitment and selection (Exercise 14) has been thoroughly revised to help students not only understand these processes but to better prepare them to compete for jobs.
