Although Western Europe has moved towards becoming an economic entity, there still remain many differences between individual countries within the European Union in terms of economic structure, policies, labour market, industry and trade patterns. The third edition of this text, formerly known as European Economies: A comparative study and European Community Economies, builds on the strengths of the first and second editions as a comprehensive and invaluable reference text. It remains the only text which combines long-term economic analysis with up-to-date statistical information.

This book provides students of European business and economics with a basic knowledge of the economic structures within the EU. All economies of the EU are covered in this edition, including the new members Austria, Sweden and Finland, with extended sections on EU politics and developments.
Each chapter is supported by ample and up-to-date statistics from Eurostats and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Bibliographies and sources of information at the ends of chapters and a glossary of abbreviations and foreign terms at the end of the text make this book a useful and practical study tool. The final chapter provides students with a comparative study of the countries covered. This is supplemented by a comprehensive appendix containing statistics which students will be able to use to draw their own comparisons.
