Synopsis

An account of chemistry for students preparing for A levels and similar examinations. Introductory sentences explain the general thrust of what is to follow, and the text of each chapter is interspersed with examples, so that a particular point can be explained in more detail, a concept illustrated, or an application described. Boxes are used to explain the background to the development of a concept, or to one of its modern applications in industry, medicine or some other aspect of everyday life. Each chapter concludes with what is intended to be a handy revision aid - a summary of the points that have been made. There is also a collection of problems in each chapter to help the student grasp the subject fully. A synopsis of the central points of the three parts of the book acts as a further revision aid - this includes the most important definitions and formulae from physical chemistry, a summary of useful facts in inorganic chemistry and some reaction schemes from organic chemistry.
