(Systemic fungicides are chemicals able to enter and travel through plant tissues, bringing about the death or arrest of invading fungi without harming the plant. Since 1972 when the first edition of this book was published, there has been a massive increase in the production and utilisation of systemic fungicides. These developments are reflected in this new and enlarged edition, which assembles the contributions of sixteen authors from the UK, USA and the Netherlands. Each of the authors is an acknowledged authority in a specialised field of fungicide studies.
The chapter structure of the first edition has, in general, been maintained, but within this structure all the contributions have been extended and revised. In chapter 11 an entirely new section on the use of systemics in forestry has been provided by Dr. Smalley, a leading US worker in this field. He presents for the first time a comprehensive account of the part played by systemics in combating Dutch elm disease. Another notable and valuable addition is a summary list of the systemic fungicides now in commercial use. This gives chemical, common and trade names, with names of manufacturers)
