About the Author English author Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins (1863 – 1933), was a novelist and playwright and predominantly for only two books: The Prisoner of Zenda (1894) and its sequel Rupert of Hentzau (1898). These works are considered "minor classics" of English literature and spawned the genre known as Ruritanian romance. Zenda has inspired many adaptations, notably a Hollywood movie.
