Synopsis

Aimed at early years practitioners, this book offers ideas on using sand as a focus for learning across the early years curriculum. The activities include using wet and dry sand as well as other materials such as salt, glitter, seeds and shells. These cover the Government's Areas of Learning for under-fives which are language and literacy, mathematics, personal and social development, knowledge and understanding of the world, and physical and creative development. The activities have step-by-step instructions which explain what materials are required and what to do. Tips on areas such as storage, making links with home, using adult helpers, observation and assessment are provided along with six photocopiable sheets which provide extension and reinforcement ideas.
