Joyce Hunt has a B.A. and an M.A. from Hunter College. She was a reading specialist and a teacher trainer in the N.Y. Public School System and is the author of 34 books for young readers, many of which were named Outstanding Science Book for Children by the National Science Teachers Association.Millicent E. Selsam, was the distinguished author of more than seventy science books for children. She majored in Biology at Brooklyn College and received her M.A. and M. Phil. degrees from Columbia University?s Department of Botany. She taught biology at Brooklyn College and in New York City High Schools.
There are more than a million different kinds of animals in the world. Only 50,000 of these have backbones, and are called vertebrates. The rest are animals without backbones, called invertebrates.
