À propos de l?auteur

Steve James is cricket columnist for the Sunday Telegraph and a sports writer for the Daily Telegraph.

He read Classics at Swansea University before becoming a postgraduate at Cambridge, where he won a Blue in the side captained by Mike Atherton. He played his county cricket with Glamorgan for eighteen years, scoring nearly 16,000 runs at an average of over 40, and captaining them for three seasons, winning a National League trophy in 2002, before retiring due to injury.

In 1997 James helped Glamorgan to win the County Championship for the first time in nearly thirty years and was named the Professional Cricketers Association Player of the Year. He still holds the record for highest score by a Glamorgan batsman (309 not out against Sussex at Colwyn Bay in 2000) and also won two caps for England.

À propos de la deuxième de couverture

In the summer of 2011, England demolished India to take over their mantle as the world's number-one Test cricket team. It was a remarkable achievement, following back-to-back Ashes successes, and was marked by devastating bowling, ruthless batting and all-round excellence both on and off the field.

Yet twelve years earlier, England could not have stooped lower. Defeat at the Oval by a mediocre New Zealand side saw the nation that invented the game hit rock bottom, sitting below even Zimbabwe. Just how did this remarkable transformation happen? And who were the key players behind the dramatic rise to the top of the rankings?

In The Plan, Steve James recounts how Duncan Fletcher and Andy Flower have been at the heart of the renaissance. With astonishing revelations from figures at the very centre of the sport, astute tactical analysis and entertaining anecdotes, it is the authoritative account of a brilliant, and very deliberate, overhaul of English cricket.

As a player under Fletcher at Glamorgan (as well as writer of his books), and close confidant of Flower for more than twenty years, James has the inside track on two exceptional England coaches and their fierce commitment to being the best.
