Synopsis

An unidentified young woman stabbed to death . . . The Launching of a revolutionary new laser operation for nearsightedness . . . A hot new IPO on the NASDAQ . . . A mysterious blind vagrant in the E.R. . . . Nobody suspects these are linked-except for disaffected New York City eye surgeon Jack Stegall and his inquisitive medical student girlfriend, Gabrielle, who begin their own undercover investigation. The deceased woman's corneas are their only clue, but witnesses wind up dead, evidence vanishes, and authorities act strangely hostile. When Dr. Stegall and Gabrielle blow the whistle, they find their own lives caught in perilous race against time. Blind Ambition is a page-turning medical thriller, yet more-an insider's view of the world of impaired eyesight and laser eye surgery which offers readers-particularly the millions of nearsighted afflicted with glasses or contact lenses-a disturbing look at what may lurk behind high tech "miracles", and a larger understanding of what makes some modern doctors behave the way they do.
