Public and university libraries are at a crossroads, hard-pressed by competition from Internet search engines, declining budgets and changes in popular culture. Libraries must respond aggressively. Ralph Blanchard holds a PhD. in economic history. He has taught at both two- and four-year colleges, worked in management with a Fortune 500 company and started a franchised information services business, serving as CEO for 16 years. He is currently Managing Director of a private real estate investment firm.
