Synopsis

Was it Huck Finn who said he would have never written his book if he had known how hard it was to do? The author of these few pages has been stumbling through life for sixty-four years, hoping to distill a few good images and averaging about one a year. A man's reach should exceed his grasp.

Biographie de l'auteur

I came to Alaska in 1961, fairly disgusted with my life in Colorado but full of hope for our brave new world up here, a ?young man green and lonely,? in the words of John Haines. After ten years or so as a student and a teacher, I underwent the biggest sea-change of all: I became a fisherman. Once you do that, it seems that you are never worth a damn for anything else.Lately, though, a pencil seems less onerous than a gaff, so I am beginning to take the path of least resistance. This little patchwork book is the result of that weakness. I hope that you will try to like it.
