It rends the soul with its description of the forsaken anointed one. It truly describes the torment which I experienced, better than I could ever express myself. Yet, even in the depths of his agony, the psalm foresees that the anointed one's faith remains firm and even turns to joy. Even at death's door, he glorifies the Lord in his might and his justice.I knew I had to recite this psalm.

Michael J. Monge teaches philosophy, logic, and religion classes at Santiago Canyon College, Irvine Valley College, and Long Beach City College. He lives in Irvine, California, with his wife and daughter.
