• How to build a general-purpose symbolic language for sending signals, and even computer programs, with present-day SETI equipment. The ability to transmit computer programs enables us to let another civilization know about our knowledge and technological capabilities.

One of his personal favorites is a telephone " robot " that responds to automated telemarketing phone calls. This robot, unleashed on an unnamed East Coast financial institution, turned McConnell into a momentary celebrity and led to his appearance on ABC's Good Morning America.
