Synopsis

A HINT OF LIGHT is the story of Byung-suk, a black-Korean Amerasian boy orphaned to the streets of Seoul who must make his way through the gutters and back alleys of the marketplace, in and out of whorehouses and hotels, and protect Miya, a young, half-white Korean girl who is mute. Trapped in their own skins because of their color, these children are foreigners in their own land with no identity and no escape. A HINT OF LIGHT is a dramatic view of the streets through the eyes of its inhabitants and exposes the underbelly of racism that permeates Asian and American societies. Yet these children never lose hope or give up on their dreams as they discover their talent for languages and take advantage of adversity to turn it into good fortune in their search of their fathers.

À propos de l'auteur

David L. Meth is a novelist, an award-winning playwright who has been produced nationally and internationally, and an educator who has lived, taught and traveled in various parts of the world. He spent three years on research for A HINT OF LIGHT, including a year in Korea and a year in Japan, and collected audiotapes and photographs of the children, orphanages, and people who cared for them. His play, 9/12, was awarded the 2008 Peace Writing International Award, and he won a 2009 Connecticut Playwrights Fellowship for his play, TO THE DEATH OF MY OWN FAMILY.
