December 6, 1941, Gideon and his family were walking four miles to Sabbath services in Baguio, Philippines, when the Japanese Imperial Forces began to bomb the city. They later learned that it was only a diversionary tactic to draw the world's attention away from Pearl Harbor. From this young age, Gideon began his life's journey that God is in control. In early 1945, he escaped the Japanese forces again only to watch General MacArthur's liberating air power from the nearby foothills attack Northern Luzon Academy, which was his home. While at the Academy, the Imperial forces only comandeered half of their home. God gave Gideon a chance to become acquainted, and even friendly, with these soldiers, which would later prove providential. Again, he had another lesson at the age of eight that God is in control. Throughout medical school, in his practice and surviving the deadliest of cancers, Gideon has spent more than 60 years in a jouney with the Lord. Many nail-biting trials have humbled him so that he can share with others, like his mother-in-law Betty Sue, that in their lives as well, God is supremely in control.
